FAQ's

How do you assess new students?

I use past papers initially to get a feel of where the student’s strengths and weaknesses are e.g. Algebra, Geometry, Number, Stats etc. Depending on time constraints I then use colour codes and a pyramid learning system which I’ve developed over the last few years. If time is not a concern I use the CGP books followed by a final 6 months of past papers.

Do you give homework?

Yes, I normally give 1 hour of homework per week. I do this as an AFL (assessment for learning) to confirm my student has understood the previous lesson as well as to assess information retention.

Do you tutor Year 6 students for Grammar school entrance exams?

Yes I have tutored many students for these entrance exams with fantastic results.

Do you tutor students with learning difficulties?

Absolutely, I have had many students over the years with an assortment of learning difficulties that relate to their understanding of maths. These include dyslexia dyscalculia and dyspraxia.

What books do you use for tutoring?

I use the CGP revision and workbooks for GCSE & A level

What was your success rate with the new GCSE 9-1 exams in 2017?

  • Higher exam - 100% grade 6-9
  • Foundation exam - 100% grade 4-5

How long do you tutor for?

Normally I tutor for 1-2 hours per week, per student.

Do you have a current DBS/CRB disclosure certificate

Yes. My latest DBS certificate can be shown to you prior to, or at our first meeting along with my teaching qualification status certificates.

Do you teach from home?

Do you only tutor one-to-one or take group lessons?
